Jugend forscht

Jugend forscht is Germany's best-known competition for young scientists. Its aim is to get young people excited about mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology, and to find and promote talented young people. There are more than 120 competitions nationwide each year. Young people from the 4th grade up to the age of 21 can participate. Those who want to take part have to find an interesting question for their research project. The winners can look forward to attractive cash and non-cash prizes.

  • Make ideas great!
  • It all starts with a flash of inspiration - an exciting idea, that awakens your curiosity. You follow it up, give your thoughts free rein. You are creative and realize: There is more to your idea. You accept the challenge and research, invent and experiment. You demonstrate - alone or in a team - how far how far your thoughts take you and how small ideas become big research projects. So what are you waiting for? Try it out. Try yourself out. Make ideas big - at Jugend forscht 2023!
  • Find the right specialty Working world Projects that deal with occupational safety and health, occupational medicine and ergonomics, that focus on the optimal adaptation of a workplace to the individual or on facilitating the daily lives of people with disabilities belong to the specialist area of working environments. It is important to note that the focus here is always on the in the center. Especially if you are in training, this subject is an ideal field of activity. Biology Do you want to take a closer look at microorganisms or observe animals in nature, determine plants or analyze water and soil biologically? All research projects that deal with the living environment fit into the field of biology. This also includes molecular biology, biomedical, biotechnological and biochemical questions. Chemistry Bang, stink or smoke? Chemistry is much more: In this subject area you can study organic and inorganic reactions or turn your attention to analytical, synthetic, technical or physical chemistry. From simple tests at home to more elaborate experiments at school or in the lab - everything is possible. Earth and space sciences Observing distant celestial bodies, analyzing the weather, exploring land structures or uncovering fossils - in this subject area, everything that belongs to the fields of geography, geology, mineralogy, geophysics, archaeology and paleontology is conceivable. Here you can also present work from meteorology, astronomy, astrophysics or traffic planning and regulation. Mathematics/Computer Science There is a lot to discover in the world of puzzles and riddles, numbers, shapes and formulas, structures and algorithms! No matter whether the journey begins in your head, with a pencil on paper or on the computer: Imagination, inventiveness and brains are required here. In computer science projects, attention must be paid to functionality, clean programming and clear documentation. Physics Whether light or electricity, whether waves or solid bodies - physics is behind almost everything in our environment. If you are interested in this field, you will certainly find a topic for your project in the subfields of mechanics, acoustics, optics, magnetism, nuclear and quantum physics as well as thermodynamics or electrodynamics. Technology Planning and designing, inventing and optimizing are in the foreground in this field. If you have manual skills and are able to convert your technical developments into a functional model, then register your project in the subject area of technology. Environmental, electrical and robotics technology as well as bionics are also located here. You can find more information on the individual subject areas under "Participation" on the Jugend forscht website.
  • In addition to your personal data, the following is important when registering online: Topic - What do you call your project? Please formulate a short, fitting title. You can register up to three projects. Subject area - In which subject area does your project belong? For interdisciplinary projects, the research focus is decisive. State - Where do you live or where do you complete your education? In the case of a team, the federal state of the group spokesperson is decisive. Short description You need a short description of your project. This should contain information about the question and the planned approach. Projects with animals Do you want to work with animals? Then please indicate this and be sure to follow our guidelines for projects with animals at www.jugend-forscht.de. What happens next? By the end of December you will receive an invitation to a competition in your federal state. In January 2023 you have to upload a written elaboration of your project online. It must not exceed 15 pages. If your project meets the entry requirements, you will present it to a jury at the competition at an exhibition stand of your own design, and the jury will evaluate it. The jury's decision cannot be revised; there is no legal recourse. The winner of a regional competition takes part in the state competition. All Jugend forscht state winners travel to the finals, the national competition. The Schüler experimentieren section ends at the regional or state level. When is the registration deadline? Anyone who wants to participate must register online by November 30, 2022. www.jugend-forscht.de At this Internet address, you will find all the information you need about Jugend forscht - including the detailed conditions of participation, online registration and important guidelines for projects involving animals and on the topic of "safety".
