Cover illustration for the novel [SENGOKU KENJŪ DEN]
2024
I was responsible for the cover illustration of Sengoku Kenjū Den, authored by Suzumine Koya , which was published by Shogakukan on November 6, 2024. Between 1467 and around 1600, Japan was in a state of civil war known as the "Sengoku Period," during which various regional warlords, or daimyo, vied for power. Many people may associate the warfare of that era in Japan primarily with the use of swords, spears, and bows. While this is generally correct, it was in 1543 that the Portuguese introduced the technology of the matchlock gun to Japan (although there are theories suggesting it may have arrived through different routes earlier). Soon after, guns began to be used in Japanese warfare, and there were even mercenary groups known as the Saika-shu, who were skilled in the use of guns.
