Magohashicho Sakyo-ku KYOTO

2024

In these times, the newly launched magazine "KYOTOZINE" features a double page spread with a big picture of my love for Kyoto. The location of the painting is Magobashi-cho, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto, a landscape along the Kamo River where the Ritz-Carlton is located. This landscape was seen in the spring of 2021 when I went there for an exhibition. Kyoto is still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, and there are very few tourists. I was also careful to avoid infection and traveled on foot for most of my travels. (Well, I guess it's normal to walk as much as you can when you go to Kyoto.) On this day, I did my usual Kamogawa jog during my stay in Kyoto. As I was running leisurely along the Kamo River around Shimogamo Shrine, I saw two women crossing the stepping stones. When I got this job, I initially drew the landscape of the Shimogamo Delta, which I love, but no matter how many times I drew it, it just didn't come out. So I remembered these two women and drew them, and I was able to draw a refreshing picture that evokes the feeling of "launching the magazine."
