Nou "Maki-Ginu"

This is a flyer and pamphlet for the Noh performance "Makikinu." I'm responsible for the illustrations, handwritten lettering, and even the layout. In recent years, I've been increasingly illustrating traditional Japanese performing arts, but I can't begin to depict them without first understanding what they are, which is incredibly enjoyable. Since my motifs are the perfected Noh masks and deformed costumes, I've come to realize that embodying them is more important than simply creating them, and that's a satisfying feeling. Then, after seeing the actual performance, I'd think, "I got this right," or "I overlooked this." Even so, Noh is fascinating. The human world and something otherworldly intersect, leading to human realizations, which are then expressed through dance. Time away from everyday life, with the music, chanting, and the effects of the Noh stage, is truly a luxury.
