GUNMA ANKO Festival

2025

The Gunma Anko Festival was the first of its kind in Maebashi, Gunma. From the planning stage, we exchanged ideas and decided on the event title and visual direction. Initially, we wanted an event that would attract around 400 guests, but we ended up with 10 times that—4,000 people! I was delighted to hear so many people mention the visuals, saying things like, "I came because the poster was great." All of this was thanks to the close communication with all the staff. I relished my memories of the "anko my grandma used to make" and drew the most delicious-looking pictures. We created quite a lot of visual materials, which were used in a wide variety of ways, including merchandise and on-site signage. On the day of the event, I also held a "Anko Portrait Badge Making Workshop." The artist colored my portrait in "anko colors" and turned it into a badge on the spot. This was also a huge success. All of the illustrations were drawn with black colored pencil on Japanese paper and colored with watercolors.
